Corked bottle. Deep brown chestnut with a creamy beige head, excellent lacing.
A lovely smell of candi sugar, cherries and caramel. The taste is full and strong with roasted malts and red wine features. Good creamy mouthfeel and tasty. The alcohol is not overly noticable though. Carbonation is alive.
The flavour of roasted malts in the finish goes over to a somewhat hopbitter aftertaste. Very rich texture.
Brugse Zot (fool of Bruges) refers to the nickname given by the Emperor Maximilian to the inhabitants of Bruges during Austrian rule of Belgium.
Today, Brugse Zot is the only beer still brewed in the historical towncentre of Bruges.
In 2006, Brewery De Halve Maan received the Gold Medal on the World Beer Cup in Seattle in the category Belgian and French style ale.
